How many people are allowed per team?
Each team requires a minimum of two players and a maximum of six.
Do we need a host?
Yes. The host will ask questions out loud, one by one. The host will also pass out pens to each team and take score, or you can designate another person to act as scorekeeper.
Do we need a team name?
Yes! Participants will select a team name and a team captain. Be as creative or respectfully
inappropriate as you’d like!
Ok, you keep talking about teams. Elaborate.
After each question is read aloud, the team captain will confer with their teammates before writing down a response on the provided answer sheets. Unlike spades, you can talk across the board here, but do NOT yell out the answers! Be sure to write your team name on the answer sheets, and after each round, your team captain will bring the corresponding answer sheet to the host. At the end of every round, the host will ask if anyone needs a question repeated. This will be your LAST chance for any repeats! After all repeats have been allowed, each team captain will have 30 seconds to submit their final answer sheet to the host.
Can we look up the answers?
Hell no! All technology is banned, and the use of anything other than your collective BRAINPOWER is not permitted. That means no quick google search, glance on your smart watch, phone-a-friend or any other raggedy antics. Scratch paper is permitted, as needed. However, there is no partial credit. Either you have the complete answer in its entirety, or you don’t.
So, how exactly do the rounds work?
There is a unique, themed category for each round. The points value will vary per category, and is listed at the bottom of each card. Play five rounds, and five questions per round for the best game experience. The bonus question (choose one) is a quick lightning round, and can be answered by anyone on the team. The FIRST person to write their answer on a piece of scratch paper and give it to the host receives the bonus points for their team. After Round 3, take a 10 minute intermission (aka grab a drink and bring your host one too) to allow the scorekeeper to tally scores and announce rankings. The team with the most points wins, and will be announced at the end of the game. In the event of a tie, pick a random question from the stack and have the team captains go head-to-head for the chance to win it all!
Anything else?
Have fun! Create a playlist, pour up some cocktails and include a prize from a Black-owned business to raise the stakes. Or, have the losers take shots. Dealer's choice.
